Does India’s UPI revolution reach everyone?

When foreign Presidents and Prime Ministers visit India, they go back talking about UPI.

But while the world learns from us, not every Indian has been brought along.

Why digital payments matter to Indian women

If money in your household aystraight into a bank account, you already know what financial control feels like.

For rural women, money retained by them, is more likely to be saved and reinvested for the family's needs - education, nutrition, and healthcare.

Cash, though, does not offer the same security. It is often taken away, untracked or misused, leaving families short of intentional savings.

Without digital transactions, women remain invisible to formal finance - No records. No credit history. No access to affordable loans. The only option left is informal borrowing at high interest.

A first step changes everything - Bharati's UPI Story

Bharati ben’s UPI QR code helps her reduce Cash and ATM runs.

Bharati ben runs a small grocery shop in her village. With credit from the Utthan–Samarthan Credit Cooperative, she expanded her shop and built a steady family income.

Yet much of her life still runs on cash.

Digital payments change that. She pays wholesalers and her children’s college fees from her phone, without closing her shop for bank or ATM visits. Customers find it easier to scan and pay, without hunting for change.

There are 200 women like Bharati ben, ready for this shift.
